A little bit of attitude

December 27, 2006

Ellie is really testing us both to see what she can get away with these days. Her talking (and talking back!) is something else right now.

Yesterday she ordered her daddy to give her some crackers, and he said, “No, Ellie, you have to learn to ask nicely the first time, or you won’t get what you want.” So she asked nicely, and Daddy said, “No, you still can’t have any, because you didn’t ask nicely the first time.” She put her little hands on her little hips and said, “But I asked!”

She’s also mastering the technique of dividing and conquering. Today she asked her daddy nicely and got three “animal cracker” cookies for dessert after her dinner. I arrived home from work just then, and she asked me, too (nicely), if she could have a cookie. Luckily, I double-checked with daddy first, so she didn’t get a “double dip” of cookies!

Counting piggies

December 16, 2006

This morning, while I was changing her diaper, Ellie was counting her “piggies” (toes). Daddy does that with her quite often, and he uses the standard rhyme. Since I was busy with her diaper, I wasn’t counting along with her, so she made up her own version.

“This little piggy went to market
This little piggy stayed home
This little piggy ate broccoli beef
This little piggy had none
This little piggy cried ‘weeeee’ all the way home”

Grandpa Bills

December 1, 2006

In classic toddler fashion, Ellie is always asking “What’s that?”

Last night she was looking at the rack where we put our mail, and said, “What’s that?” So her daddy told her that those were bills, since that's pretty much all that's up there. So she said, “Grandpa Bill?” After a good chuckle, Daddy explained that they were bills, but not Grandpa Bills.
